Day Trip from Zürich: Motorcycle Roadtrip to Grimselwelt

We went on a motorcycle roadtrip to the Grimselwelt area in Switzerland. The drive through the Alps was amazing. We stopped at the Handeckfallbrücke suspension bridge, indulged in cheese, made in house at an Alpkäserei, “discovered” a castle and even got to see the Brünigschwinget, which is a special Swiss wrestling match that happens every year on the last Sunday of July.

I don’t think I could ever get tired of seeing the Alps. Those mountains are so majestic and impressive. We have been blessed with amazing weather this summer 2015 so it was perfect to take the motorcycle for a ride and what a better place to do that than in the mountains.

Restiturm, the tower of a castle that was built in 1250

We spotted this tower. At first I thought it was a castle, but we took a detour to check it out and found out that it is a tower that was part of a castle built in 1250. It is now known as “Restiturm”

We had to stop to take a picture of this lake. Look at that color!

Then we had a picnic at Alpkäserei Handeck, where we bought a cheese plate from their own cheese, freshly made on site.

The cheese we ate was probably made with milk from this cow (LOL)

Then we headed to the Handeckfallbrücke suspension bridge

But the highlight was  definitely unexpectedly finding the Brünigschwinget, which is a special Swiss wrestling match that happens every year on the last Sunday in July.

Once back in Zürich, we stopped at a “u-cut” flower farm where we hand-picked sunflowers. There is nobody charging the money, instead this work with a honor system, where people pick their flowers and then drop the money off in a box, so it’s better to have exact change.
